Corrugated paper is a board-like material made by bonding linerboard with corrugated medium that has been shaped into wave patterns using corrugating rolls. It’s typically categorized into two main types: single-wall and double-wall cardboard, further divided into five distinct types—A, B, C, E, and F—based on the size of the corrugations. Invented and widely used for over a century, corrugated paper boasts several advantages: it’s cost-effective, lightweight, easy to process, highly durable, offers excellent printability, and is convenient for storage and transportation. Moreover, more than 80% of corrugated paper can be recycled and reused. As a result, it’s commonly employed as packaging for both food products and digital devices, making it an environmentally friendly and widely adopted solution.
Uses
Type A and Type B corrugations are typically used for outer shipping boxes, with beer crates commonly made from B-flute. E-flute is often preferred for single-piece packaging boxes that require a certain level of aesthetic appeal and can hold contents weighing up to a specific limit. Meanwhile, F-flute and G-flute—collectively referred to as micro-flute—are ultra-thin corrugated materials, ideal for disposable packaging containers designed for foods like hamburgers or cream-filled pastries. They’re also widely used for lightweight electronic products such as digital cameras and portable stereo systems, as well as for packaging refrigerated goods.
