Boxboard paper (also known as kraft paper or linerboard) is one of the primary raw materials for corrugated cardboard boxes, made by compressing multiple layers of pulp. It is primarily used to produce export packaging boxes and high-end product packaging boxes.
Structure and Materials
Boxboard is typically made from raw materials such as kraft wood pulp and waste hemp pulp. In China, production often combines a wood-pulp top layer with a core layer made of either waste paper pulp or straw pulp, while some high-end products use 100% unbleached kraft wood pulp for the core.
Classification and Ranking
It is classified into three grades based on quality: superior, first-class, and standard; and into two color categories—brown and light-colored, with the lighter shade primarily used for premium packaging.
Application areas
Primarily used for manufacturing export packaging cartons, home appliance and electronics packaging, as well as food transportation protection, consumption in 2025 was significantly boosted by the growth of e-commerce logistics.
